Springboks vs Scotland Tips - Nations Championship 11 July
Springboks host Scotland at Loftus Versfeld in Nations Championship Round 2 on 11 July. Kickoff, form, H2H and our picks.
- South Africa host Scotland at Loftus Versfeld, Pretoria on Saturday 11 July, kickoff 17:40 SAST, in Nations Championship Round 2.
- The Boks thrashed England 45-21 in round one and have made ten changes, while Scotland arrive off a 47-38 away win over Argentina without flyhalf Finn Russell.
- We like the value in the Springboks' handicap and the total points line rather than the short straight moneyline price.
The Boks are rolling and Loftus Versfeld is about to get loud. South Africa put 45 points on England at Ellis Park last weekend and now turn to Scotland in round two of the Nations Championship. We like the world champions to win well again, but the value this week sits in the handicap and the tries markets rather than a straight moneyline bet that barely pays out.

The Form Line
South Africa opened their Nations Championship campaign with a 45-21 demolition of England at Ellis Park, running in six tries in front of a raucous Johannesburg crowd. Rassie Erasmus has made ten changes for this one, resting several senior forwards including Siya Kolisi, Eben Etzebeth, Lood de Jager, Franco Mostert and Ox Nche with what the union has described as ongoing niggles. Embrose Papier starts at scrumhalf for his first Bok appearance since 2018, and Handre Pollard gets another run at flyhalf.
Scotland arrive full of confidence after stunning Argentina 47-38 in Cordoba, a seven-try away win that lifted them to second in the Nations Championship's northern hemisphere group. They did it without flyhalf Finn Russell, who missed the trip through injury. It is a genuinely good away result, but Cordoba is not Loftus, and Scotland have never played a Test at altitude in Pretoria before.
Head to Head
| Year | Competition | Result |
|---|---|---|
| 2024 | Autumn Test, Murrayfield | Scotland 15 South Africa 32 |
South Africa won the two sides' most recent meeting comfortably at Murrayfield in 2024. This will be the first time the teams have met at Loftus Versfeld, and Scotland's men have never played a Test in Pretoria's altitude.
Team News
The Boks make ten changes from the side that beat England, with Aphelele Fassi starting at fullback, Jesse Kriel and Damian Willemse in midfield and Pieter-Steph du Toit taking the captaincy. Kolisi, Etzebeth, de Jager, Mostert, Nche, Andre Esterhuizen and Ethan Hooker are all left out with what Erasmus called ongoing niggles rather than fresh injuries. For Scotland, Finn Russell's continued absence is the standout team news alongside the obvious travel and altitude adjustment after backing up from Argentina.
Verdict
South Africa should win this. The bigger question is by how much, and a rotated Bok pack against a Scotland side backing up from a seven-try shootout in Cordoba points to a wide margin rather than a nervy one. We like the handicap over the straight win given how short the moneyline runs, and the total points line looks soft given how open both sides have been through round one.
