Cape Town's Wale Street Has a New Resident, and It's Making the Bookies Sweat
Easybet has planted its flag in the Mother City. The operator opened a branded shopfront on Wale Street in the Cape Town CBD - its first physical location in the Western Cape and a clear statement about where it sees growth.
Why it matters
Most SA betting brands operate purely online. Opening a physical space is expensive, so when a brand does it, they are betting (literally) on that market. Wale Street sits in the heart of the city centre, close to the taxi ranks and main transport hubs where foot traffic is high.
For punters in Cape Town, it means easier access to cash deposits and face-to-face support - two things that online-only operators struggle with. A lot of bettors in SA still prefer handing over cash to tapping a card number into an app.
The bigger picture
Easybet is not the first to try this. Hollywoodbets has built a massive retail network across KZN and Gauteng, and Betway has invested heavily in brand visibility at malls and sports venues. But the Western Cape has been underserved by retail betting shops compared to Joburg or Durban.
Whether this is a one-off or the start of a broader rollout remains to be seen. But for now, Cape Town punters have a new option on their doorstep.
